Sunsoil Brand Review

Sunsoil mission according to their website: “At Sunsoil, we are on a mission to create affordable access to the best CBD products. Sunsoil was founded out of a desire to affect positive change through our products and our actions.  To disprove the notion that price determines quality and to pioneer a different type of approach.”

Founders Alejandro Bergad and Jacob Goldstein have most certainly achieved this objective. They have created an excellent product at a reasonable price point without cutting any corners. In fact, the only con we can find with Sunsoil would be a lack of product variety. However, that may come in the future. For now, their laser focus on their three main products is earning them a good reputation.

Based in the Green Mountain State, Sunsoil is headquartered in Burlington, and they run a vertically integrated operation. That’s a fancy term for a practice not all CBD companies can lay claim to. It means that they oversee every aspect of the business, starting with their own seeds right on through to production and sales. I will talk more about their process in a bit, but let’s dig right into the reviews first.

Based on their extraction process, it’s clear that the company is on the higher end when it comes to quality. Their products are crafted from Vermont-farmed certified organic hemp, which means they are grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals. They are non-GMO, and each product can be traced from seed to shelf.

Sunsoil’s transparency practices, however, are the most telling factor of all. We have never seen any as thorough as these guys when it comes to testing. While any reputable company will conduct private third-party lab testing for potency and purity, Sunsoil goes above and beyond by testing at two stages during their process.

  • First, they do a round of testing when their hemp leaves the drying barn. The screening is conducted at independent accredited labs. Yes, I said labs. Not one lab—but three separate ISO certified labs are used to ensure the quality is consistent.
  • After the CBD has been extracted from the dried plants, the process is repeated, and the compound is AGAIN sent to three separate labs for testing.

We also took some time to check out the user experience on the site, which we are happy to report is top-notch, as well. The site is quick to load and easy to navigate, with lots of informative articles and resources, like an interactive graphic to help users learn even more about the process used to craft Sunsoil’s products. I’m looking forward to seeing what else comes from this company, which is destined to become a new family favorite.

Sunsoil offers three primary products made with CBD: Oil drops, capsules and softgels. Let’s start with the oil.

Sunsoil CBD Oil Drops Review

Sunsoil CBD Oil

I received Sunsoil chocolate-mint CBD oil, also called full-spectrum hemp extract. I’ve tried several full-spectrum oils with the chocolate-mint flavor in the past, and have not been a fan. Usually, no matter what is done to hide the robust earthy flavor of full-spectrum oils, they are still pretty pungent.

Sunsoil’s version is different. There is virtually no bitterness or hemp aftertaste whatsoever, and the chocolate-mint is mild and refreshing— not overpowering. The appearance is beautiful, too – a medium, bright amber color. It’s packaged in a dark glass bottle, which is vital to keep the oil from light degradation. (Many people don’t realize how glass color can affect CBD quality.)

I got the two-ounce dropper bottle, which contains 60 ten mg servings of CBD in each measured dropper. The dropper itself is pre-printed and super accurate, a nice detail to note if you’ve ever had trouble getting the right dose with cheap droppers.

I usually take around 28 mg daily, so I needed to take almost three measured doses to reach the equivalent. New users should find 10 mg to be an ideal starting point to gauge CBD’s effectiveness, and at a price point of only $30.00, you will find it’s one of the least expensive options. For those who aren’t into the chocolate-mint, you can also get it plain or citrus.

Because I regularly take more CBD per serving, I would typically go with a more potent formulation. However, Sunsoil’s 1200 mg formulation only comes in cinnamon, a flavor I am not crazy about. In this case, I would simply double up on my purchase of the 600 mg offerings.

Price: $30 (600mg) and $60 (1200mg)

Sunsoil CBD Capsules & Softgels Review

Sunsoil CBD Softgels

The softgels by Sunsoil contain 20 mg of CBD each, and the photo is a bit deceiving on the size. These are pretty big (think twice the size of a standard vitamin D), but the fact that the oil is encapsulated in a football-shaped gelcap makes them super easy to swallow.

Softgels are an excellent option for those who don’t want to take a tincture. They also are less messy and more portable than oil. Keep in mind, though, that oils are meant to be taken sublingually (under the tongue), and this allows for faster absorption and increased bioavailability. Softgels must pass through the digestive tract before they can get to work in your body, so be patient.

Although I have not tried them yet, I gave one to a family member for a headache, and it did the trick within an hour. Upon close inspection, you can really see the organic plant matter in these gel caps. They are packed with full-spectrum CBD and will make a great addition to my first aid kit.

Sunsoil CBD capsules & softgels are available in two sizes: 30 count and 90 count containers.

Price: $30 (30 count) and $90 (90 count)

A Unique Process

Breeding their own seeds and creating hardy hemp strains is vital in a state like Vermont, where the growing season is short, and the climate can often be harsh. The seedlings are nurtured in heated greenhouses until they planted in the ground, where they are tended to by Sunsoil’s expert farming staff. The hemp is harvested by hand once it matures.

Extraction is different here too. The extraction process is how farmers get CBD oil from raw hemp, and it’s one of the most costly aspects of the business. Sunsoil has pioneered an innovative new way of doing this called lipid extraction. They use MCT or organic coconut oil and heat to pull the CBD from their barn-dried plants.

The lipid extraction process is safe, gentle, and cost-effective—and it’s just one of the ways the company helps to keep products reasonably priced. Prices for Sunsoil’s organic CBD oils are five cents per milligram across the board, with their bundle currently priced at just four cents per milligram. These extremely low prices represent a significant saving in an industry where the cost per milligram regularly soars past ten cents.

Over-The-Top Transparency

Based on their process, it’s clear that the company is on the higher end when it comes to quality.

As I mentioned, I do A LOT of CBD reviews, and there are many great companies offering some terrific products, but I have never seen any as thorough as these guys when it comes to testing.

I was able to easily access the results of these tests directly on the website, where they can be searched by batch number. A QR code is also printed on the label of each product. I scanned the code on the oil using the code reader on my phone, and presto! I was directed to the lab results for my bottle of Sunsoil chocolate-mint CBD oil—a full six pages of certificates of analysis. Oh, how I love technology!

Final Thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised to see that this company has covered all the bases when it comes to the making of a top-quality CBD oil. I was even happier to find that I can recommend them in confidence to my friends and family who won’t have to pay exorbitant prices for a superior product.

I also took some time to check out the user experience on the site, which I am happy to report is top-notch, as well.
